…and with Spring come warmer days, indeed! I’m looking forward to days like we had this weekend, consistently. It was sunny and warm, or at least relatively so. As Spring approaches, I have to start thinking what the Alchemy Drum Circles are going to look like. As a nod in that direction, I decided to take the plunge and create an event on meetup.com. I’ve been a long-time member, and I even hosted the event there before they began charging for the service. Now I’m back in an attempt to further garner community support and interest in keeping the drum circle alive. I’ll be looking forward to how the drum circle can grow with this added socialization thrown in the mix. Head over to Meetup.com and join us if you’re in the Hall County area and would like to be notified about drum circle events.
An exhibit is unveiled at Brenau University today at 4:00pm. Dian Fossey, author of “Gorillas in the Mist,” was murdered in 1985 in her hut in Rwanda for her local controversial life’s work with the gorillas. To commemorate the public display of her life in the jungle, Alchemy Drumming & Dance will open it up with African drumming. For some of the items on display, it will be the first time the public has witnessed them. For the library in which Alchemy will perform, it will be the loudest it has ever been. Whatever your interest, you’re sure to want to be at the Brenau library before 4:00 for the event!

We’ve attended Camp Cocoon for several years now, and we’ve just finished up this year’s facilitation of a very large drum circle. Each year, we try to bring new activities and new ways for the camp’s youth to explore rhythm in a community setting. We had an all-time highest helpers crew this year! Not only did the camp really go above the call of duty and help us with our equipment, but Alchemy had 8 representatives to work with the campers.
Camp Cocoon is a bereavement camp for Hospice survivors, ages 5-17. The camp does a great deal of therapeutic work in many inventive ways for the children. We’re honored, as always, do be a part of their services.
The video below is from 2007, I believe. The Alchemy Drumming & Dance circle form an intro for their video presentation of the camp’s message and services.
We’ re on the square all day today to celebrate the bikes, bands, and healthy bodies for the fifth annual Grand Prix Criterium. Come see the Alchemy Drumming and Dance booth we’ve setup to encourage new participants in our public drum circles and frequent belly dance classes. We’ ve already heard from a lot of people, so don’ t be shy. Come on over and introduce yourself; we’ d be happy to demonstrate and even happier if you want to demonstrate your skills!

Due to some technical problems with the old site, Alchemy Drumming and Dance is undergoing a major renovation! This space will soon hold the newly transformed space for the northeast Georgia rhythm and dance crew: Alchemy Drumming & Dance. Check back soon to see our developments as we work through the winter and usher in the dawn of spring.
What we’re doing in the meantime:
Fox is still teaching belly dance classes, though now she’s doing this out of her own space at Celestial Studios in Mainstreet, downtown Gainesville. Contact Fox for more information about this class.
